International students

Here’s what you need to know about living and studying in London.

London is the most diverse and welcoming city in the world. Home to 400,000 students in total, the city also welcomes more than 100,000 students from more than 200 nations at any one time, and over 300 languages are spoken on these very streets.

Truly unique. Student city.

Despite its dynamism, London is still a safe and supportive city in which to study. Most universities give you free access to support services both on and off campus, and there are hundreds of student societies and clubs where you can meet new people and enjoy your favourite activities.

Outstanding educational standards

London – and, in fact, the UK as a whole – is renowned for its teaching standards and fantastic universities. It’s part of what attracts so many international students to the country each year. Universities in London routinely make it into the top 10 world university rankings, and degree qualifications from these institutions are recognised worldwide.

Global living. Diverse city.

Home to over 8 million people, London is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world. Whatever country you’re from, you can feel at home here – even amongst the frequent reminders of London’s own rich heritage. There are more than 50 non-indigenous communities living and working in the capital, making it a fascinating and exciting place to be.

Unmatched career opportunities

The city is a major business capital. Home to a vast range of companies, from multinationals and retail giants to tiny tech start-ups, it’s also the largest centre in the world for foreign equity trading.

Studying here places you at the very centre of the business world, with access to incredible opportunities for internships, work experience and budding careers of all kinds. You’ll make valuable connections on and off campus and meet people from all over the globe, giving your future career international reach.

Easy travel.
In no time.

Thanks to the beautifully designed London underground, the city is incredibly easy to navigate. Grab a tube map and you can get from one corner of the city to another in no time, avoiding all the traffic above ground. An extensive overground network and 24-hour buses make it even easier to get anywhere you want to go, quickly and efficiently.

Sure, there’s the odd hold-up or tube delay, but one of the things international students love most about London is the fantastic transport facilities that allow them to explore the city with ease.

Explore the best

London is globally renowned for its architecture, atmosphere, vibrant community, and culture. From cutting edge fashion shows and theatre groups to the coolest gigs and film festivals on the planet, whatever you’re passionate about, you’ll find inspiration and stimulation here at any time of the day or night.

There are more than 800 galleries to visit, including The National Gallery, the Tate Modern and White Cube. Most galleries and museums are free, making them an enjoyable and affordable way to spend your time. More than 250 festivals take place in London every year, and the city’s 300+ venues are proud to host more than 17,000 live performances annually – so if music is your thing, you will be truly spoilt for choice.
